Vancouver, Washington

From almost any place in Vancouver, on a clear day, you should be able to  view the majestic Mt. Saint Helens.  You are also able to see Mt. Hood, which is located across the Columbia River in Oregon.

No matter where in the Vancouver area you choose to live you will be able to experience the rich history of the area, the lush forests, picturesque mountains and flowing rivers.  You will also be close to the cultural center of Portland, Oregon where you may enjoy the theater, symphonies, art museums or outdoor Farmers market.

Vancouver truly offers everyone something that will enrich their lives and make living here as wonderful as you dreamed it would be.

In 1806 the Lewis and Clark expedition camped in the area. Lewis wrote that it was "the only desired situation for settlement west of the Rocky Mountains." The first permanent white settlement did not occur until 1825, when Fort Vancouver was established as a fur trading post of the Hudson's Bay Company. From that time on, the area was settled by both the US and Britain under a "joint occupation" agreement. Joint occupation ended on June 15, 1846, with the signing of the Oregon Treaty, which gave the United States full control of the area. The City of Vancouver was incorporated on January 23, 1857.

Vancouver, Washington sits on the north bank of the magnificent Columbia River in Clark County, Washington. To the north and east of Vancouver lie the communities of Battle Ground, Camas, La Center, Ridgefield, Washougal and Woodland. Each of these communities are uniquely different, carving out their own identities in the Clark County landscape. Framed by the picturesque Cascade Mountains to the east and the Columbia River to the south and west, Clark County is the southern gateway to Washington State.

Just a bridge away from metropolitan Portland, Oregon, Vancouver is located on the Interstate 5 corridor which links all major west coast cities from Canada to Mexico.

The Pacific Ocean and its expansive beaches are a quick 90 miles to the west. The startling beauty of Mount St. Helens, the challenging ski slopes of Mt. Hood, and the scenic beauty of the Mt. Adams Recreation Area are less than an hour's drive away

Mild winters and moderately dry summers are typical of Southwest Washington. With an annual average temperature of 50 degrees Fahrenheit, Clark County offers year-round enjoyment of the beauty that is the Pacific Northwest.

Over 40 miles of river frontage set the tone for a community which values recreation and leisure as well as a vibrant, well-balanced economy.

Regional and corporate headquarters, high-tech manufacturing, traditional industry and small businesses work together here enjoying Clark County's mix of urban density and wide open spaces. Some of Vancouver/Clark County's top employers include Hewlett-Packard, Sharp Microelectronics, Georgia-Pacific.

The unique result is a growing, progressive community -- a two-time winner of the prestigious All America City award -- which values its quality of life as much as it does its healthy business environment.
