La Center, Washington

La Center is a small community  north of Vancouver, Washington.  The city is situated for easy communities to Olympia, Washington, Vancouver Washington and Portland, Oregon.  Nestled at the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range the area provides breathtaking views of Mt. Saint Helens. 

Located east of Interstate 5 at Exit 16, La Center is in north Clark County, Washington, near the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range affording magnificent views of Mount St. Helens. The southern border of the City abuts the East Fork of the Lewis River.

Early settlers came to the area on sternwheelers to settle the land and become business owners, farmers and loggers. The sternwheeler "Leona" accents the river history. In 1912 the Leona was docked on the north shore undergoing repairs when a fire broke out on board. She was cut loose, drifted to the south shore where she burned beyond repair. Today, the hull of Leona can be seen in low water times about 150 feet west of the La Center Bridge.

Residents and visitors enjoy an abundance of wildlife that habitat the La Center Wetlands Stewardship Site. Canadian Geese and Tundra Swan are annual visitors as they rest from their journey along the Pacific Flyway.

Family recreational opportunities are also found in three City parks. The 12 acre City of La Center Park hosts a community building, ball fields, play area and a pathway for walking or jogging. Heritage Park, located in the northern part of the City, is a beautiful greenbelt area offering a play area and walking opportunities. The Elm Street Park offers respite to walkers and a playground for youngsters.

The General Commercial District hosts businesses and stores including food/fuel convenience markets, a pizza restaurant, video store, cleaners, and a multi-service mail box store. Restaurants offering a variety of foods are located in the four mini-casinos located near the General Commercial District. Adjacent to the north City limits is Salishan Vineyards - the home of award winning Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays and dry Rieslings.

The City is served by the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District and Clark County Fire District 14 provides emergency and fire protection. Clark County Public Utilities owns and operates the water and sewer facilities.

School:  The La Center School District consists of 1 elementary school, 1 middle school and 1 high school. You can also go to this page where you will find a complete list of Clark County Schools.  Click on this link for a complete list of all Clark County Public Schools, including address and phone numbers.  La Center is a small community but that does not mean they don't support their schools.  The children that attend this school district all receive a top education.   I would recommend that you check out GreatSchools.net or the Washington State School District site which will give you more information on the wonderful educational opportunities for La Center school children.

After School Kid:  The program After School Kids offers supervised before and after school care for K-5 children enrolled at La Center Elementary.

Newspapers:   You may want to order up The Columbian, which is a paper published from Vancouver and deals mostly with local issues or you could order the Oregonian which covers the Portland-Vancouver metro area.

Community Education:  La Center Community Education Center provides opportunities for all ages to learn and play.
